Description of the research topic:
Relying on S. Zukin’s definition of symbolic economy, the PhD project should be focused on the processes of the production of abstract goods such as financial instruments, information, culture (art, food, fashion, tourism, high culture), branded material goods (wine, clothes etc.) and of urban spaces that are scenes to the making and consuming such goods. Projects can be focused either on the development of public or private spaces as scenes to symbolic economy or on discourses signifying spaces. The suggested methodology might include case studies, comparative approach, text analysis and various interview techniques.
