Description of the research topic:

Areas of fluvial and/or aeolian origin are extremely sensitive to Pleistocene and Holocene environmental changes (e.g. vegetation change, climate change and human impacts). For example, the form assemblage and material of floodplains (e.g. channel pattern, terrace levels, sediment load) reflect catchment-scale and reach-scale environmental changes. Whilst on aeolian areas with sparse vegetation blown-sand activity could time-to-time restart as a consequence of vegetation and climate change.
The aim of the research is to study the Quaternary morphological evolution of an area, to evaluate the rate of natural processes and their changes in case of human disturbance. Within the study geomorphologial mapping and various dating techniques (OSL, 14C, dendro-chronology) can be applied.
