Energy assessment of the building stock of a focus area

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: Budapest University of Technology and Economics

Thesis supervisor: Tamás Csoknyai
Location of studies (in Hungarian): Building Services and Process Engineering
Abbreviation of location of studies: EPGET

Description of the research topic:

a.) Antedecents:
Energy assessment of residential building stocks have been a major issue in Europe to establish a scientific background for policy planning. Such analysis have been carried out for many EU countries, but can be further elaborated or new focus areas can be analysed.
b.) Aim of research:
The objective is the energy assessment of the building stock in a focus area with a specific scope (e.g residential buildings, public buildings) based on existing statistical data and by developing a building typology and analyse model buildings. Furthermore, energy saving and CO2 mitigation potentials are also to be assessed,

b.) Tasks, main items, necessary time:
Milestones:
1. literature review on other countries (year 1);
2. literature review on the building stock in focus (year 1);;
3. development of building type matrix (year 2);
4. statistical data collection (year 2);
5. development of model buildings (year 2);
6. building modeling and scenario building (year 3);
7. national level extrapolation (year 3)
8. elaboration of dissertation (year 4)

c.) Required equipment:
Special equipment not needed, but data purchase may be necessary.

d.) Expected scientific results:
As a result a more accurate picture will be aquired about the energy performance of the Turkish building stock.
