Description of the research topic:
We seek to reveal the intracellular interaction pathways between the signal transduction of the hormonal (e.g. ghrelin, leptin, insulin), paracrine and neurotransmitter stimuli (dopamine, endocannabinoids) of hypothalamic neurons regulating energy metabolism and food-intake. To this end, we apply cell culture, molecular biological, protein detection and microscopic as well as energy transfer (FRET, BRET) techniques and intend to extend our studies to animal models as well. By studying the interplay of such signal transduction pathways we may identify pivotal points in the regulation of energy metabolism under physiological and pathophysiological (e.g. obesity) conditions.
