Description of the research topic:

Earlier the support of organisational processes was realised by relatively simple information management solutions. Today the latest IT systems and process-oriented management allow quicker responses to the internal organisational and the environmental changes. At the same time the amount of relevant and well-manageable information of business processes and the complexity of information networks have increased. This change requires the more precise support of managerial decisions. The main questions in the research are:
• What is the reliability level of application of conventional decision-support methods nowadays?
• By what processes and at what efficiency level can the latest decision supporting solutions (hybrid methods, IT-based methods) be applied?
• How can the organisational strategy selection be supported by decision theoretical approaches? Which methods can provide useful help in this process?
• In which areas of operative production / service and supporting processes is worth to apply conventional or new methodological solutions?
Within these questions the analysis of the next topics can be realised:
• Application fields and limitations of ranking methods.
• Appearance of utility in ranking methods.
• Preference-distorting effects of decision-making methods.
• Methods and critics of strategy selection methods.
• Analysis of efficiency and effectiveness of managerial decisions.
• Application possibilities of hybrid (conventional and IT-based) methods in strategy selection.
• Application potentials of ranking methods in operative production decisions.
• Process improvement decision.
• Decision-making issues of waste reduction and scrap rate reduction in production processes.
• Decision-making problems in queueing systems.
• Appearance of artificial intelligence in decision-making.
• Managerial decision-making competence measurement and development.
To analyse the topics above the next methods are suggested: multi-attribute utility theory, set theory, outranking relation, ranking techniques (AHP, Electre family, voting principles, Borda, Köhler, etc. methods), basics of data mining and content analysis, queueing theory, process improvement (Lean, Six sigma, etc.).
