Description of the research topic:

The candidate will perform an overall literature research on the topic. The candidate establishes the coupled thermal-mechanical and mathematical modell and performs numerical and analytical simulations and experiments. The creation of a general method is intended which is capable of revealing the thermal-deformation behaviour of ultraprecise machine tools under heat load.
o Required language skills: English
further expectations: basic knowledge in the following fields
• Theory of machine tools and heat-transfer and ODEs
• Computer skills, knowledge of CADCAM systems, mathematical softwares (MATLAB/MAPLE) and FEM methods.
• Compulsory literature:

• L.N. Lopez: Machine Tools for High Performance Machining. Springer 2009.
• Recommended literature: V. S. Ramachandran: Thermal analysis of construction materials. Noyes Publications 2002.
