Description of the research topic:
The role of reduction-oxidation (redox) regulation in abiotic stress tolerance and development will be evaluated through glutathione-related processes. The redox state of glutathione will be investigated by in vitro spectrophotometric methods and in vivo by the redox-sensitive green fluorescent protein (roGFP2) using confocal fluorescence microscope. Involvement of glutathione-related antioxidant mechanisms will be estimated after overexpression or silencing selected genes using Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Relationships among the level of reactive oxygen species, expression of redox-related genes, growth and development of roots will be evaluated in Arabidopsis and tomato plants.
