Informal payment in the healthcare sector constitutes a huge problem to be solved in many countries of the world. Informal payments are not only money of corruption. It can also be a true expression of gratitude. The medico-social and medico-legal analysis of the topic is highly important to understand the functioning of the healthcare systems. Informal payment exists in almost all healthcare systems of the world, however, it largely affects Eastern Europe. The PhD Thesis examines the question in its international context, its effect on the healthcare system, and a rarely treated field, that of informal payment to nurses, is also examined.
