Quantum statistical correlations in high energy physics

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Thesis supervisor: Máté Csanád
Location of studies (in Hungarian): ELTE TTK
Abbreviation of location of studies: ELTE

Description of the research topic:

Results from RHIC and LHC have shown, that the color degrees of freedom in high energy heavy ion physics are indeed partly deconfined, but they behave collectively and create a strongly interacting perfect fluid. Many properties of this matter are still unknown. The topic of this research is to investigate this matter, via the measurement of Bose-Einstein correlations, the investigation of the spacetime structure of the particle emitting source, and the testing of hydrodynamical models. We plan to perform multi-particle correlation measurements at CERN and at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, as we can learn about important properties of the created matter such as spacetime evolution, chaoticity and coherence in hadron production, anomalous diffusion, chiral symmetry.

Knowledge of quantum mechanics and the basics of particle physics, experience with c++, preferably experience with ROOT
