Description of the research topic:

As a response to the increasing influx of migrants, the World Health Organization (WHO) since 2008 called upon repeatedly the Member States to develop and strengthen the ‘migrant sensitive healthcare system’ as a response to the related possible health and public-health hazards. While the precondition of any development in the healthcare systems is the assessment of the needs to address, unfortunately, currently there is a serious lag on this field, because no coherent, European level migrant-health database had been developed until now. The retrospective research analyses the accessible data in three countries of the European Union which are important in regards of migration: Greece, as the entering point as border country; Hungary, as the traditional transit country of the route from the Balkan; and Germany, as one of the most important target countries. The conclusions of the research can be directly utilized in the realization of the proposal of WHO.
