Description of the research topic:

There is a significant demand for developing and using technologies which enable the time- and cost-effective, and environment friendly ways of soil data collection. This is especially relevant for regions where infrastructural, geographical and financial obstacles hinder the acquisition of the information needed for sustainable agricultural production and soil conservation, food security and decision making. This research topic deals with the development of modern – remote sensing, proximal soil sensing and laboratory spectroscopy based – methodologies for effective soil property prediction and mapping. The research focuses on the African continent and supports the development of a continental scale soil information system.
