Description of the research topic:

Observing the occurrence and mapping the spatial distribution of agro-hydrological extremes is of utmost importance for limiting the damages. With contemporary satellite-based Earth observation techniques, it is possible to monitor both the crop development and the agro-hydrological circumstances (soil moisture, evaporation, etc.) with a high temporal resolution (2-3 days), but a smooth integration of the different data and the corresponding models is not fully solved yet. The Candidate will identify the most important gaps hindering the creation of consistent time series of agro-hydrological parameters using radar and optical data, and will develop methods for closing the gaps and simulate the spatial distribution of agrohydrological extremes and provide advice at regional level for irrigation management, using a selected region of the Hungarian Plain.
