Description of the research topic:

Topology optimization is a free form design tool that combines finite element analysis with mathematical optimization. Design performance is quantified with an objective function, which drives the design optimization, while engineering constraints govern the search domain. Topology optimization is being used in many engineering design fields such as structural engineering, aerospace design and micro-structure. However, in engineering practice the uncertainties play a very important role. A designer must deal with the existence of uncertainties in the product in a manner that will make the design perform as expected in a safe and reliable way. The aim of the proposed research is to present and investigate a probabilistic optimal topology design method where the loading and design parameters are given randomly.
