Description of the research topic:
Using classical microbiological and molecular biological methods, as well as functional and metagenomic studies, we characterize the fungal strains found in the gastrointestinal tract of many herbivores. This topic focuses on mapping the cellulolytic enzyme stock of previously identified aerobic and anaerobic fungi and the applicability of these fungi in biogas fermenters. We would like to study their enzyme systems, their lifestyle, their reproductive characteristics, and the possibilities of their exploitation in the fermentation industry. With these fungi, the digestion in the biogas fermenters will be significantly more effective andconsequently it will also increase the biogas production.
