Description of the research topic:

Syllabus
The optical systems transformed our view of the Universe, from cosmological theories to elementary particles and helped us to understand both inanimate and living matter at their elementary level. Initially, these instruments worked with visible light, but later other forms of radiation have been used. Of these, electrons have become the most successful, by providing direct spectroscopic images down to the atomic level for scientific, engineering and fabrication applications.
Electron optics has been altered dramatically during last decades by the proliferation of fast computers and new numerical methods that make possible the development of new type of instruments that is the main topic of this subject.
