Description of the research topic:
The pathogenetic role of the mucosal barrier in functional gastrointestinal disorders is intensively studied nowadays. Mucosal barrier dysfunction proved to be important in irritable bowel symptom pathophysiology (one of the most frequent functional disease), experiments in animal model suggest that changes of the mucus layer could be novel factor in symptom genesis of this disease. In our work we plan to preset a novel techniques which lets us study the mucus layer in human, consequently we hope to better understand pathogenesis of functional gastrointestinal disorders and to invent new diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities.
