All ICT applications are implementing information processing. In the old-fashioned ICT systems the information processing is done by circuits. However, these old-fashioned circuit-based systems cannot be used in any kind of applications where the system configuration has to be changed.
In software defined electronics (SDE) every application is implemented entirely in software run on a uniform HW platform. Therefore, the implementation of a new application needs only to change the software.
This approach has been already used in software defined radio and virtual instrumentation. The SDE approach gives a unified framework and theory for the implementation in SW and provides a systematic process for the derivation of baseband equivalents.
Still there are a lot of open questions which prevent the use of SDE concept in many applications. In the framework of the PhD studies the theory of SDE concept has to be studied and the open questions have to be answered.
