Description of the research topic:
Our laboratory is studying the molecular mechanism of neuro-glial plasticity and neuroprotection and it has been involved in research projects on the effects of gonadal steroids in this process. We have shown that hormonal effects on synaptic connections are not limited to developmental stages i.e. they are influencing the plastic changes and regeneration in the adult brain, too. In the presently running projects we use animal models and transgenic animals to study the effect of estradiol and neurostreroids on the neuronal and glial chanhges induced by nerve injury.
