Description of the research topic:

Using a combination of laboratory and field observations, classical microbiology, molecular fingerprinting, metagenomics and metatranscriptomics the complex microbial communities present in anaerobic microbial communities are characterized. The composition of the microbial communities will be determined at highest possible resolution and the main metabolic pathways prevailing in those communities will be uncovered. Effects of various environmental factors will be studied in order to improve biological renewable energy production technologies.
