The research may comprise the conceptual, theoretical and empirical questions regarding regime types, including some of the following questions: What kind of authoritarian elements do contemporary representative democracies have? Can democracy and authoritarianism fuse? What are the virtues and weaknesses of the emerging hybrid regime approach? How can we conceptualize and measure the borderline between democratic and authoritarian regimes? Both individual case studies and comparative research topics are welcome in the program.
