Description of the research topic:
Virotherapy is a therapeutic modality using viruses to cure genetic disorders and cancer. Currently, there are ongoing clinical trials with 12 virus families, including Retroviridae, Adenoviridae, Poxviridae, Parvoviridae, Herpesviridae, Reoviridae, Picornaviridae, Rhabdoviridae, Paramyxoviridae, Flaviviridae, Togaviridae and Polyomaviridae. We have shown that the pro-apoptotic effect of vesicularis stomatitis virus plays an important role in the oncolytic effect of this virus. Our present goal is to develop a genetically modified virotherapy agent endowed with increased tumor-specificity and efficiency.
