Description of the research topic:

The world system has been hierarchic both on national and international level. The position that a country has been occupied in the architecture of global capitalism is determined by the historical path of its integration into this system. The research questions are as follows. How do the theories concerning the international economy explain the developmental differences of national economies? What is the content of “catching up”? How broad is the playing field of the (semi)peripheries to achieve successful catching up? What national abilities and social and economic policies are needed to achieve a catching up in a given sense? Is catching up possible in global capitalism? What are the characteristics of a real catching up and on what inner socio-economic forces and international relations can it be built?
