Description of the research topic:

A part of strategy I dicot plants excrete flavin derivatives to the rhizosphere under iron deprived environmental conditions that flavin derivatives are thought to contribute in the reduction and deliberation of the iron content of insoluble Fe(III)-precipitates. Although flavin derivatives can operate as electron carrier compounds due to their redox properties, the origin of the reducing power, the regulation of the flavin biosynthesis and the interaction and cooperation between the ferric iron reduction of ferric-chelate reductase enzymes and flavin derivatives are hardly known. Thus this topic focuses on understanding of the role of flavin derivatives in the uptake and homeostasis of iron within plants.
