Description of the research topic:

"Visuality of Contemporary Performing Arts"

Scenography as a discipline in-between the visual and the performing arts, creates a dialogue between them. Many of the most important innovative contemporary performances are highly based on visual elements, while many visual artists incorporate theatrical elements in their works in order to create new art forms and genres – let it be performance, the use of ephemeral phenomena, improvisation, innovative environments and venues, presence and contribution of the audience. It is noteworthy that the most interesting theatre-artists are today the spatial artists, and the fact that many of the most important contemporary visual artists collaborate with performing artists.
The disappearing boundaries between the classical drama, opera, dance and site-specific-, crossover performances induce fundamental changes in the visual appearance of contemporary performing arts. Consideration of the meaningfulness of Space, the Place and the Venue, and the creative use of these phenomenons opens new ways for artistic communication. Today new genres of art and new media reflect to each other in an innovative way - always constructing new art forms together.
