Description of the research topic:

Watercourses are one of the most important landscape elements in natural and urban context. People used to settle next to them, they provided the inhabitants with wide range of ecosystem services. But their role have changed negatively following the development of settlements, their canalization etc. which affected the whole landscape around watercourses as well.
Nowadays we see a strong movement for revitalization the watercourses improving water quality, ecologic value etc., affecting their role in the urban landscape as well. These changes also affect their perception and the scope of cultural ecosystem services provided by them.
It is possible to explore the changing role and changing scope of cultural ecosystem services through scientific literature review and comparison analysis of case studies with watercourses in different state. The aim of the proposed research is to define the possible ways of enhancing the cultural services provided by watercourses in urban context.
