Description of the research topic:

The legitimacy of constitutions depends on whether they are able to declare general principles of political morality that can be respected by every members of the political community. The fact that there is a deep disagreement between the members of the political community concerning fundamental moral and political values creates great challenges for contemporary constitutional law. These challenges are significant not only at providing equal protection of the freedom of religion but at the problems of the legitimacy of democracies that are established solely on the principle of the majority rule. The main issue is whether there are basic moral and political principles that are able to eliminate disagreement between the members of the political community regarding to moral and political values. What kind of compromises are needed to establish a consensus between the freedom of religion and the demands of democratic cooperation?
