Description of the research topic:

Implantation of autologous bone grafts is a widely used method in the clinical practice (e.g., oral- and maxillofacial surgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery). The integration of the implants is influenced by several factors, including the microcirculatory ones. Microcirculation is determined not only by the vascular function and geometry but flow properties of the blood (rheology) are inevitable as well. In cooperation with other departments we wish to investigate the local microcirculatory alterations after implanting autologous bone grafts in rat models together with following-up micro-rheological and hematological alterations besides the final histological analyses.
