Description of the research topic:

Acute pancreatitis is a sudden inflammation of the pancreas. In 15-20% of cases, patients show moderate to severe condition with local and systemic complications including organ failure and sepsis. There are supportive therapies, but no specific treatment against it. Previous investigations have demonstrated that hydrogen sulfide and organosulfur molecules are biologically active and have anti-inflammatory properties. Dimethyl trisulfide and diallyl trisulfide, belong to organic sulfide molecules. They have analgesic effects and are protective in several disorders. Our aims are to investigate whether the above-mentioned organosulfur molecules could alleviate the severity of experimental acute pancreatitis and to reveal their mechanism of action.
