Scheduling robotic cells

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: Széchenyi István University, Győr
computer sciences
Multidisciplinary Doctoral School of Engineering Sciences

Thesis supervisor: Máté Hegyháti
Location of studies (in Hungarian): Széchenyi István University
Abbreviation of location of studies: SZE

Description of the research topic:

As Industry 4.0 is underway, automatization of manufacturing processes is applied in more and more different systems. Handling materials with robots can be much more effective than with human operators but the increased production capacity results in more complex scheduling problems in production planning. It is an active topic of research to find new methods, or refine previous approaches dealing with these scheduling problems.

The job of the PhD candidate is to contribute to the research of scheduling approaches for robotic cells. Optimization methods have decades of development, which must be transferred to the new challenges arising in industrial applications. To solve these problems, potential existing techniques must be identified, extended for new requirements, and their performance must be improved to be able to solve larger, more complex problems.

Requirements:
• General understanding of the basic principles of discrete mathematics
• Programming background
• Fluent English

Preferred qualities:
• Former experience with any kind of optimization
• Engineering, logistics experience on any relevant fields
• Advanced C++ skills
• Any experience with evolutionary algorithms
• Former research on a related topic

Deadline for application: 2019-04-30
