Description of the research topic:

Thalamus is known to relay sensory information towards cortical areas. In addition, some thalamic territories, subregions of the thalamic complex also project to effector brain areas, like the amygdala, ventral striatum and hypothalamus, which all modulate emotional behaviour. Our main goal is to reveal the exact role of this 'emotional’ part of the thalamus. To do so, we combine immunocytochemistry, confocal and electronmicroscopy, optogenetics, acute and chronic electrophysiology as well as behavioural assays.
