Description of the research topic:

Social innovations target social problems that are undaddressed by the government (stat) and the market. Typically, they create multi-actor arenas where creative, new solutions to complex, wicked social problems are developed in a collaborative and participatory manner which result in positive social change. Social innovation brings macroeconomic benefits in terms of generating economic value-added and creating new employment opportunities, particularly for those segmets of society who experience difficulties in joining the primary job market. The EU primarily acknowledges the work integration potential of social enterprises and supports the so-called social economy (in other parts of the globe it is rather called solidarity economy). Doctoral research may addres, among others, the organsational hybridity, network and value chain characteristcs of social innovations and social enterprises. Critical organisational analysis will generate new scientific insights in the nternational research domain of social innovation and social enterprise.
