Description of the research topic:

About 5% of the genome of eukaryotes is devoted to enzymes that carry out post-translational modifications (PTM). Post-translational modifications may increase the number of unique proteins in an organism by more than an order of magnitude. PTMs induce conformational changes in proteins, affect oligomerization, ligand binding and biological recognition. Among the PTMs, the glycosylation, the phosphorylation and the disulfide bridge formation are widely prevalent and many regulatory process of our body connected to them. In addition to PTMs, the incorporation of natural or artificial hindrance to peptide or peptidomimetic molecules could increase the controlling possibilities of receptor selectivity or absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) properties. Therefore the development of synthetic methods for the preparation of posttranslationally modified peptides or proteins regard as increasing importance.
