Description of the research topic:

Microservices and serverless computing techniques transform cloud computing systems by introducing even higher level of flexibility and elasticity to customers and end users. Clouds supporting these computing techniques often bill their customers after billions of service invocations. To analyse and predict the behaviour of these new kinds of clouds and their expected trends, there is an ever growing need for simulators capable to imitate the behaviour of such large amount of invocations. These systems however introduce new challenges for the current cloud, IoT and general distributed systems simulators. One of which is to provide reasonable simulation times with sufficient precision. The candidate is expected to investigate parallelisation techniques essential for this goal and then exploit his/her findings by introducing novel extensions to a state of the art cloud/IoT/etc. simulator.
