Description of the research topic:

Obesity has grown to be a major health problem across Europe and worldwide. Over-eating together with a lack of physical activity are the main proximal behavioral risk factors for people to become overweight and obese. Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors are strongly influenced by environmental characteristics that may influence an individual’s level of physical activity (e.g. through the availability of opportunities to walk, interconnectivity of streets, proximity of parks and recreational facilities) and dietary behaviors (e.g. through availability, accessibility and affordability of foods). Certain environments may be more ‘obesogenic’ than others, such that they are more likely to promote weight gain and obesity in individuals or populations. However evidence on associations between built environment and obesity still remains inconsistent and data are mainly lacking considering Central and Eastern European countries. The aim of this study to collect data on neighborhood built environment and identify physical environmental factors with the greatest impacts on the development of overweight and obesity.
Background in health sciences (preferably Master of Public Health or Degree in Medicine) and good statistical skills are required.
