Description of the research topic:
Information inherited through social learning is the base of our human culture. The transmission of cultural information is the key element of the adaptation to the changing environment. However, our knowledge about animal cultural mechanisms is largely insufficient. One of the most commonly studied animal cultural system is the birdsong that has important role in female choice and territoriality. We study the cultural evolutionary patterns and mechanisms with the help of diverse methods: field experiments, analyses of long-term databases, network analysis, comparative methods and theoretical modelling.
