Description of the research topic:

We recently identified several critical factors for the fusion of secretory granules with lysosomes in a process known as crinophagy. In particular, the small GTPase Rab7 and the SNARE protein Syntaxin 13 may be recruited to secretory granules to make them competent for fusion with lysosomes in Drosophila salivary gland cells. This project aims to identify the molecular mechanisms of how these factors are targeted to secretory vesicles using a combination of molecular genetic, biochemichal and microscopy approaches.
