Description of the research topic:

The candidate will investigate H-atom tunneling and intramolecular vibrational redistribution (IVR) processes. Small organic model compounds will be prepared in low-temperature inert matrices, and by NIR or UV laser irradiation higher energy conformers will be generated. The efficiency of formation of these species, among other parameters, is determined by the IVR mechanism; while certain conformers can decay by H-tunneling mechanism. The goal of this project is to understand the details of these mechanisms, both the dependence on the molecular structure and on the environment will be studied. The experimental studies will be aided by quantum chemical computations.
