THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: Budapest University of Technology and Economics
physics
Doctoral School of Physics

Thesis supervisor: Katalin Kamarás
belső konzulens: Pál Koppa
Location of studies (in Hungarian): MTA Wigner Research Centre for Physics
Abbreviation of location of studies: MTA

Description of the research topic:

The main topic of the Ph.D. project is the investigation of hybrid systems consisting of one- or two-dimensional cages and scaffolds (nanotubes, few-molecular layers) and small molecules by near-field infrared microscopy and spectroscopy and the comparison of the results with electron microscopy images. Structure and dynamics of the molecules and their chemical reactions on the nanoscale can be detected this way, leading to possible applications in nanoelectronics. The near-field measurements will be performed in the Advanced Structural Laboratory of the Institute for Solid State Physics and Optics, Wigner Research Centre for Physics, and electron microscopy in collaboration with the Institute for Technical Physics, Centre for Energy Research.

Required language skills: english
Further requirements:
Basic training in solid state physics, interest in chemistry, enthusiasm for experimental work, solid English knowledge.

Number of students who can be accepted: 1

Deadline for application: 2018-05-31
