Description of the research topic:
We initiated large observing programmes with NASA's Kepler/K2 and TESS space telescopes. The candidate will work on data analysis and photometric investigations of these light curves (mainly RR Lyrae stars and Cepheids). Application of statistical methods and time-frequency analysis will be necessary to learn more about old and recently discovered dynamical phenomena (Blazhko-modulation, period doubling, extra periodicities, resonances) in the pulsational behavior of these stars. By studying their occurrence rates of these phenomena and their correlations with external parameters (age, metallicity, environment) we also aim at studying their possible application in galactic structure mapping and other near-field cosmology problems. The applicant will join a large research group SPEX (Space Photometry, Stellar Pulsations and Exoplanets) at MTA CSFK Konkoly Observatory with extensive international collaborations.
Required language skills: English Further requirements: Excellent programming skills, ability to solve physical problems numerically, ability to work in a team, as well as individually.
