Description of the research topic:

In this research, we plan to develop and to study a monitor-type analyzer system for the determination of the trace metals in sediments present in river beds. This analytical arrangement is based on a direct current electrolyte cathode atmospheric glow discharge and a multi-element detector. The main aim of this work is to assembly the “breadboard” of the measurement system, to study its fundamental features (e.g., background spectra, signal-to-noise ratio), and to optimize the operating conditions (sample flow rate, sample pH, plasma discharge parameters, etc.), which are the most favourable for the fast monitoring of the metal composition of sediments. Moreover, certain real sediment samples will be collected and analysed with the optimized analytical system, to check its performance.
