Abbreviation of location of studies: ELTE

Description of the research topic:

The behavior of rodent mothers changes dramatically during pregnancy. Nulliparous (non-mother) female rats are not attracted by pups while mother take care of them and defend them against even larger males. The underlying gene expressional differences are to be addressed in the present proposal. The topic includes performing mRNA expressional studies to understand the neurobiology of mother rodents at different reproductive stages. Comparative studies are planned to understand the dynamic changes in gene expression of neurons at different stages such as pregnancy, lactation, and weaning of the pups. Then the key genes will be identified using the Pathway and network analysis studies for the rodents nervous system folloed by expressional validation of key genes. Finally, functional studies on genes with altered expression level will be carried out using knock-out technology. Subsequently, behavioural tests will be performed on these animals to observe the behavioral changes of phenotype.
