Description of the research topic:

Mycoplasma hyorhinis is a cell wall-less Gram negative bacteria which is surrounded only by a cell membrane. It is commonly present in the respiratory tract of pigs. M. hyorhinis can be present in normal lungs, but it is more frequently found in pneumonic lungs, where it is considered a secondary pathogen. M. hyorhinis has re-emerged as an important swine pathogen in recent years causing polyserositis and arthritis in animals from 3 to 10 weeks of age.
Main aims of the project are:
1) to investigate the genetic variability of M. hyorhinis strains.
2) to examine the susceptibility to antibiotics of M. hyorhinis isolates by microbroth dilution method.
3) to examine the antibiotic resistance genes of M. hyorhinis.
