Description of the research topic:

World consumption of pork has rapidly increased in recent decades. Inflammation diseases and oxidative stress caused by pathogen bacteria are lead to serious economic problems. In order to reduce antibiotic use, there is a growing interest to replace the antibiotic drugs by different alternatives. These compounds such as polyphenols could help gut health optimization which results improved epithelial integrity and growth promotion.
In the Ph.D. work the antibacterial effect of certain polyphenols will be investigated. Polyphenols will be tested also in combination with different antibiotics. The anti-inflammatory properties of selected compounds will be studied in porcine intestinal epithelial model. In the experiments, expression of proteins related to the inflammation will be assayed. Moreover, alterations in the structure and function of the tight junction barrier will be followed up.
