Description of the research topic:

The great variability, high reassortment and host switch potential of influenza viruses, furthermore the pandemic caused by the H1N1pdm virus in 2009 raise the need for a complex and comprehensive analyses of influenza viruses from different animal species. The main goals of the planned research will consist of detailed genetic, molecular epidemiological characterization and phylogenetic analyses of the viruses detected in our labs during the last decade; identification of new strains sent for analysis and further development of molecular diagnostic tools for influenza virus detection and improvement of current diagnostic methods.
