Description of the research topic:

During the past couple of years, mumerous novel adenoviruses have been discovered some of which (mainly those detected in bats and rodents) seem to represent several hitherto unknown virus lineages. The target of the PhD work is the detailed study of several such adenoviruses. In case the isolation and propagation of the selected viruses in cell cultures remain unsuccessful, sequencing of their genome will be carried directly on the DNA extracted from the positive samples. Metagenomics NGS might also be applied as an alternative approach. Based on the analyses of the complete genome sequences, the main characteristics of the given adnenoviruses will be described, and after having determined their precise phylogenetic place, an official proposal for their taxonomical classification would be prepared.
