Description of the research topic:

Our research focuses on the regulation of DNA damage bypass mechanisms using the model organism baker yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We search for proteins regulating damage bypass using different methods. Recently we identified the Def1 protein as an essential factor for induced mutagenesis. We showed that Def1 regulates the access of lesion bypass polymerases to the replication fork. We also discovered a new mechanism through which Def1 affects the accessibility of the replication fork. We are currently pursuing experiments to unravel the details of this new mechanism and to map the interacting partners of Def1.
