Description of the research topic:
This research topic focuses on the investigation of the traces of infectious diseases found in archeological human skeletal remains. It is essential to separate the most important specific infections (syphilis, TB, leprosy, plague, etc.) from the group of the so-called nonspecific infectious conditions using tools of paleopathological differential diagnostics. This thesis topic will mainly explore the occurrence, paleoepidemiology and evolutionary aspects of a mycobacterial and treponematous infections in the history of Central Europe.
