Description of the research topic:
Landscape change does not avoid protected natural areas, its major effects occur basically at the borders of protected and not protected land. The investigation of land use change on protected natural areas provides valuable information on their state, on the vulnerability of their natural values and the short and long time chances of their survival. The research can provide numerous new scientific results, especially on the area of introducing and adopting certain landscape ecological figures for Hungarian natural conditions, and the combination of research methods with GIS and remote sensing. The importance of such investigation is increasing as the number and distribution of the endangering factors (loss of biodiversity, narrowing and fragmentation of habitats, environmental pollution, degradation of nature, forestry, negative effects of wildlife, tourism etc.) is growing. Important research questions a) At what scale does landscape change endanger natural values?; b) What are the major endangering factors and what measures can be taken against those? c) Where are the hotspots where intervention is needed?
