Description of the research topic:

Primary and secondary post-harvest processes following the harvest of medicinal plants (e.g. cleaning, drying, shredding, chopping, packing, storing, etc.) can significantly influence the quality of produced plant product, it’s chemical constituent content. Therefore in terms of herbal products it is not all the same that the raw material in what kind of post-harvest procedures is involved. However, the processing does not have the same effect on the different plant parts, drug types, different active ingredient groups, etc. In this research topic we investigate the effect of important post-harvest processes on the drug quality in case of some medicinal and aromatic plant species, drug types and product types. We try to explore the correlations between post-harvest operations (e.g. drying techniques, cleaning and chopping, packing and storing conditions, etc.) and changing of active ingredient content of processed medicinal plant raw material.
