Description of the research topic:

Gilgit-Baltistan is very important is disputed territory between Pakistan and India. It is controlled by Pakistan. It has very important geostrategic and geopolitical location. It is bounded in the North by Wakhan strip in Afghanistan and Xinjiang province of China and on the South and southeast by the Indian-occupied Kashmir and on the west by Chitral in Khyber Panhtoonkhwa. The location makes Gilgit-Baltistan strategically important for Pakistan, China, the US and India.
Gilgit-Baltistan is as important as it was in 1880s when the Russian occupied Central Asian States and the Russian officer Colonel Gromechevsky, visited Gilgit-Baltistan and his presence there was taken as the start of the great game.
Historically, the Silk Road connected China with Central Asian States and Mediterranean Sea and there were several roads passed through Hunza-Nagar then to Hindukush Mountains to Afghanistan.
There have many other routes and passes, which connects Russia, China and Central Asian States to warm water Arabian Sea. The Silk Road is replaced by Karakorum highway when it is construction started in 1967. The region of Gilgit-Baltistan also home of five eight thousands and more than 50 mountains over the 7000 meters along with K-2 the world 2nd highest mountains. It is also home of longest glaciers and lakes.
Geopolitically its importance is much more increase because now China the world upcoming Economic power starts the initiative of One Belt One Road (OBOR) and sign China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project with Pakistan. So if it is completed than China become a regional super power. Therefore, United States, India and other powers takes initiative to control its influence.
